Obituary of Richard J. Hodes

Irondequoit: May 17, 2016. After a brief illness, died peacefully at the age of 90. Richard is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Dorothy (Hertweck), children Janet (John) Palmisano, Daniel and Thomas (Denise), and brother-in-law, William (Diana) Hertweck, along with five grandchildren, many wonderful nieces, nephews and friends. A graduate of Our Lady of Perpetual Help elementary school and Edison High School, Richard was a World War II veteran serving in US Navy in the South Pacific. He returned from the service and began a long banking career, starting as a teller at the Monroe Avenue branch of Lincoln Rochester Trust Company in 1946 and retiring as a senior vice president at Chase Lincoln Bank 42 years later. An avid sportsman, he played golf and tennis into his late eighties and enjoyed his weekly bowling outing until just a few weeks ago. A loving and caring husband, father, grandpa, and uncle, Richard also was a devoted member of his Christ the King Church community for many years. Calling will be held on Sunday, May 22 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Paul W. Harris Funeral Home at 570 Kings Highway South. Mass of the Christian Burial will be held at Christ the King Church, 445 Kings Highway South at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, May 23. Interment private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Richard J. Hodes Memorial Fund at St. Kateri Parish, 445 Kings Highway, Rochester, New York 14617.
