LoMonaco, Dr. Mario B.
Irondequoit: Sunday, February 5, 2017 at the age of 83. Predeceased by his wife Jill. Mario is survived by his sons, Michael (Cathleen) LoMonaco, John LoMonaco, Mark (Kem) LoMonaco; sister, Marie (Angelo) Pantaleo.
A dedicated husband, father and humanitarian, Mario was born in Brooklyn, NY and raised in Great Neck, NY. A graduate of Bates College (Maine), 1954, he went on to earn his Doctor of Medicine from Albany Medical College (NY), 1958. He served as Internist and Resident at Rochester General Hospital, 1959-63, named Chief Resident of Surgery, 1962, and Fellow American College of Surgery, 1967. Mario served his entire professional career in Rochester, including: Rochester General Hospital Attending in Surgery, 1967-1985; Park Ridge Hospital Director Department of Surgery, 1977-85; University of Rochester, School of Medicine, Assistant Clinical Professor of Surgery, 1977-85; Medical Society of the County of Monroe President, 1984-85; New York State Department of Health, 1990 until his retirement, 2002. Mario bettered his community working with youth as a coach and medical adviser and as a member of the Ridge Culver Fire Department. An avid sportsman and lifetime member of the Irondequoit Bay Fish and Game Club, he enjoyed hunting, fishing and supported nature conservancy.
His family will receive friends WEDNESDAY (2/15) from 9:00am - 12:00pm at the funeral home (570 Kings Highway So.). Interment private. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Mario's and Jill's name, may be directed to Lipson Cancer Center at Rochester General Hospital, 1450 Portland Avenue, Rochester, NY 14621.
