Obituary of Janet T. Royka

Please share a memory of Janet to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Janet Franc Royka died Thursday July 13, 2017 at St. Ann's Community. Born September 14, 1920, she was the youngest and last surviving of seven children of the late John Franc and Stella Zajaczkowska. Janet's parents were among the first Polish immigrants to settle in Rochester in the late 19thy century. The family was a founding member of Saint Stanislaus Church and belonged to various Polish associations located in the Hudson Avenue neighborhood until the late 20th century. Janet lived simply and in the moment. Her joy was her family. She took pleasure in sharing family history through stories about "her growing up years" on the (Hudson) avenue. She loved to shop and took delight in her appearance. Her God, her family and her hairdresser had equal importance. Her death takes her away from her family but places her in the arms of her God. In 1940 Janet married Peter Royka, who died in 1995, after 55 years of marriage. Survivors are many and include one son, Randall and his wife Kathleen of Saratoga Springs, N.Y., a beloved granddaughter, Natasha Royka of Ottawa, Canada, a special friend and niece, Evelyn Cull of Victor, N.Y. and a loving goddaughter, Amy Waterman of Farmington, N.Y., who published a book dedicated to Janet about the Franc family. Friends may call Monday July 17, 2017 from 5:00PM to 7:00PM at Harris Funeral Home, 570 Kings Highway. Her Funeral Mass will be Tuesday July 18, 2017 at 10:00 AM at St. Stanislaus Church. Janet will be buried at her husband's side in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. The Royka family would like to express their gratitude to the SCU staff at Saint Ann's Community and Lifetime Care Hospice for their thoughtful, loving care and compassion which will be remembered always. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Ann's Foundation-SCU, 1500 Portland Avenue, Rochester, N.Y. 14621.
