Catone, David P. of Irondequoit, passed away on Tuesday, February 14, 2023 surrounded by his loving family. David was predeceased by his parents, Salvatore and Margaret (Giardino) Catone and sister, Sandra Catone. Dave is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Susan (Kodweis) Catone. Children, Bob (Christine) Catone, Sherri (Michael) Rimmer and Mike (Erica) Catone. Grandchildren, Abbie (Jeff) Serenati, Emma (Richard Ferraro) Catone, Josh Rimmer, Jenna Rimmer, Madison Catone, Ryan Catone and Nicholas Catone, Great-Granddaughter, Gia Serenati, Brothers, Douglas (Barbara) Catone and Dan (Maria) Catone and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
Dave was born on October 2, 1942 in Rochester, NY. He, the oldest of 4, grew up in the city of Rochester and graduated from Edison Tech in 1961. During his high school years, Dave met Susan (Kodweis) through mutual friends and she later became his wife. They married in 1963 and went on to have their beautiful family of two boys (Bob and Mike) and one girl (Sherri). In 1968 David became a member of the Point Pleasant Fire Dept. where he was an active fireman and joined the Point Pleasant Drill team a few years later. During his tenure at PPFD he served as Chairman of the Board of Directors, as Recording Secretary, Lieutenant, Vice President, and President. After years of service to the fire department, Dave was presented with the honor of life membership for both the fire department and drill team.
During his life Dave was the embodiment of jack of all trades. Working since the day he graduated high school, he worked at Rochester Products, RG&E, the Town of Irondequoit, and Eastman Kodak (15 Yrs). While working full time and helping raise three kids, he created the business of his dreams. Dave was the founder of Catone’s Catering providing catering all over Rochester and surrounding areas for over 40 years. It was not by coincidence that Catone’s Catering brought the feel of a family dinner to events. The catering team was comprised of Dave’s children, family, friends, and teens from the neighborhood. After Dave hung up his apron and closed his catering truck doors, he continued to experiment with his love of food. Some of his favorite activities included watching the Food Network, creating new recipes, and sharing his knowledge and love for cooking with his grandchildren.
Dave was the type of man who excelled at anything he tried his hand in. He had a love for bowling that was passed down to his children and grandchildren. Dave was a league bowler at Parkview Lanes a few days a week for many years and was the first bowler ever to bowl a perfect 300 game in the center. Dave was also a member of the Irondequoit Rotary Club. Dave was the grandfather to 7 grandchildren and great grandfather to one great granddaughter. Being a “Grampa” was something he was most proud of and a wonderful grandfather he was. Dave never missed a birthday, concert, game, or tournament of his grandchildren.
Dave will always be remembered as the life of the party with a smile that would fill your heart with joy. He was truly one of a kind and is leaving the world a better place than he found it. His family will honor his memory through all the family traditions he created, and he will live forever in our hearts. The Catone family would like to thank the medical teams at the University of Rochester Medical Center, Rochester General Hospital, Bay Creek Medical Group, Bay Creek Dialysis, and Aaron Manor Skilled Nursing Facility. A special thank you to Dr. Eduardo Arazoza, Dr. Anjum Burki, Dr. Sheema Chawla and Dr. Michael DeTraglia for their many years of care and dedication.
