Rochester, NY – Jean M. Czerkas at age 91, passed away on Sunday September 8, 2019. Born to Leslie J. and Sophie DeGraff Brown in Rochester, NY. Predeceased by beloved husband Alfred E. "Fritz" Czerkas, daughter Joy Ann McLaughlin, sister and brother-in-law Joyce and Norman Rosenzweig. Survived by sons Mark, Keith and Robert and grandson Lewis McLaughlin, niece god child Judith Durr, nieces Susan Blake and Lynn Compton. Jean was a member of Summerville Presbyterian Church, a longtime member of the Board of Trustees of the Friends of Mount Hope Cemetery, a trustee of the Landmark Society of Western New York and in 2004 was appointed to the Rochester and Monroe County Freedom Trail Commission. Jean's years as a historian included the discovery of the only home remaining in Rochester, NY owned by abolitionist Fredrick Douglass and was the author of a biography of noted landscape architect Alling Stephan Deforest.
