He was just “Uncle Gene” for the 3rd generation….
A loved member of the Vincola/VanCola Clan, starting on Lincoln St.…
Went to school with my Aunt Lynn… A lifelong friend of uncle Joe’s and my father, Pete…And Pa too…
Usually a surprise visit for coffee, cannoli, stories, advice and council, to each home we moved to 8 times…
We all took a Road Trip to Brooklyn, NY one time, to visit my Grandpa’s cousins; Pa, Joe, dad, Gene and me…I think I was 6…. It was a blast, such fun, just the thing a young boy would cherish the memory…
Gene was there for weddings, birthdays, July 4th picnics, Christmases and New Year bashes at the Rio…
He was the last real-life connection to my parents, and those happy times…..most sad…
Never saw Gene without that signature SMILE!!
Just talked to him the Saturday before, sounded fine, the same…Joked, laughed, traded couple funny stories…
He wondered why he was still there after 6 weeks, feeling stronger, and planning Monday to get moved-up to a more mobile facility…. Not that high, I thought!
Just a great guy…He will always be remembered with gentle thoughts… Very sorry Joan…
Our Uncle Gene!

Joan, I'm so sorry for your loss. Gene was an amazing human being who always treated me with kindness and love. Every time he saw me he would start singing in Spanish. When we met at Alex's office many years ago he saw greatness in me and always made me feel important. He was such a caring human being that for my wedding over 23 years ago, he knew we were struggling and paid for our wedding cake. He didn't come to my wedding because it was during Thanksgiving weekend and he couldn't celebrate during that time. I will always remember his warmth and tell it like it is attitude. He knew I was a fighter from the beginning and he loved it. He will be truly missed. Sending my deepest condolences.

Joan, Please accept my deepest condolences with the loss of Gene, your husband, our Patriarch. He was a man of great character with wisdom and old school values that I greatly admired him for. His iron-man work ethic made him unstoppable. He was the strongest, most resilient man I’ve ever met. His love for family ran deeper than most and his Sicilian pride was second to none! I’ll miss his sense of humor, the stories, and the laughs we shared over countless bowls of tripe. He will be missed greatly and I wish we could’ve kept him forever! Tom LaBue

Joan,
Im so sorry to hear of Genes passing. As i told u before……none of us will ever get used to death. Its not natural and was never meant to be. I hope you will find comfort in knowing death will not last forever. Our Creator has promised a time in the future when it will be done away with forever. Our Creator does not lies so we can be sure of it!
Much love,
Cheryl

Dear Aunt Joan, Uncle Gene was so very special to me and my wife Jan. We shared a lot of time together at lunches, dinners, meetings, family gatherings and worked together on some legal assignments. He helped me out in when I started practicing law and guided me through my first work. We always enjoyed chatting about the "old days" at the LaBue home on Clairmount Street and all the events throughout our family's history. I always enjoyed his company right up to the very end. He always had a smile on his face when he saw family and friends and he loved all his family and friends with all his heart. God Bless You and May the Lord give you strength and courage to carry on for many, many years to come. Love, Rich & Jan
