Obituary of Kathleen A. Milliman
Waterloo- Friday, February 21, 2025 at the age 50 after a courageous five-month fight against cancer. She is survived by her partner Nick Sidhu of Bergen, NY and his sons Owen and Evan; father, David Milliman of Ovid, NY; brother, Tim Milliman and sister-in-law Sarah Milliman of Rochester, NY, and many aunts, uncles and cousins. She is predeceased by her mother Nancy Milliman.
Kate was born in Waterloo, NY on April 25,1974. She graduated from Waterloo High School in 1992 and later earned undergraduate and graduate degrees in education and administration from Nazareth College of Rochester (Nazareth University) and the University at Buffalo.
Kate was a force of nature with her charismatic demeanor, infectious laugh and commanding presence. Besides being a wonderful daughter, sister, partner, stepmother, niece, cousin and friend, she was a dedicated administrator for the New York State Education Department Office of Special Education, where she served as Chief of Special Education Services and was a fierce advocate for students with disabilities. There is no question her leadership in that role led to positive outcomes for many children. Kate was also a skilled quilter, who shared her magic with the community by donating hundreds of quilts to nursing homes and other senior residences. She will be deeply missed by all who loved her.
Per Kate’s wishes, there are no calling hours or services. Gifts in her memory may be made to The Ovarian Cancer Research Alliance (www.ocrahope.org), the Sisters of Saint Joseph of Rochester (www.ssjrochester.org), and the Verona Street Animal Society (www.vsas.org).
The family extends their gratitude to the physicians and nursing staff of Rochester General Hospital for their attentive care during Kate’s last months of life.
