Obituary of Adelheid C. Momano

Adelheid Charlotte Elfriede (Kuhn) Momano died peacefully at home after a
long illness on Friday, June 6, 2025, at the age of 98. Predeceased by her
beloved husband, Frank James Momano, parents Johanna (Mulack)
Saborowsky and Willi Kuhn. She is survived by her half-sister, Ruth
(Saborowsky) Borowitz; children Linda Boorum, Lorraine Belanger, Frank
(Doria) Momano, Joanne (Edward) Cantwell, and Steven Momano;

Cantwell, Lauren (Jesse) Presnell, Michele Cantwell, and Madelyn Momano; and
great-grandchildren Emma and Ava Quintern; nieces and nephews.

“Heidi” Momano’s life story was an odyssey in the grandest American
tradition. Born in post-WWI Weimar Germany, she survived a crushing
economic Depression, a National Socialist dictatorship, and total world war,
only to realize her dreams of freedom and family in the promised land of
America. In 1952, as the wife of a stateside-posted U.S. Army Soldier,
barely able to speak English and with three small children in tow, she
traveled unaccompanied to the United States, raising a family in Rochester,
New York, while working diligently in factories over three decades
manufacturing men’s clothing (Bond’s and Fashion Park), fine chocolates
(Fanny Farmer), condiments (R.T. French), and specialized publications
(Case-Hoyt Printers). Simultaneously, she raised five children, traveled the
world with her husband and children, and in 1967--in what she regarded as
her proudest moment--became a Naturalized U.S. Citizen. A genuine force
of nature, she established herself as the beloved matriarch of her
neighborhood, sharing her exceptional cooking and sewing skills with her
many friends who came to love and revere her.
