Dr. Joseph L. Carbone

Irondequoit: Peacefully at home, surrounded by his loved ones on Saturday, June 21, 2025 at the age of 68. Predeceased by his father, Charles Carbone. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 26 years, Mary Carbone; beloved daughter and son-in-law, Roma and Lucas McGrann; caring and adoring mother, Loretta Carbone; mother-in-law, Nancy McCombs; sister, Carol (Joe) Paladino; sisters-in-law; nephew, Joe (April) Paladino; as well as many other nephews and nieces.

Dr. Joe Carbone was born and raised in Irondequoit, New York, where he developed the values of hard work, compassion, and service that would define his life. After completing his medical education, he raised a loving family and dedicated over four decades to practicing medicine. For more than 40 years, he was a devoted partner in a podiatry practice, where he cared for hundreds of patients with skill, kindness, and integrity. Dr. Carbone was deeply committed to his patients' well-being and earned their trust through consistent, compassionate care.

He also served as Chief of Podiatry at Rochester Regional Health, where he became known not only for his clinical expertise but also for his passion for mentoring and educating the next generation of medical professionals. He took great pride in his role as a mentor, guiding residents with the same dedication and compassion that he showed to his patients.

He was deeply involved in charitable and civic organizations, reflecting his commitment to making his community a better place. He served on the board of the Italian Heritage Foundation and as a trustee for Monroe Community College. He was also a member of the board for Golisano Children's Hospital, where his leadership and advocacy helped improve healthcare for children in the region.

In addition to his medical and charitable contributions, Dr. Carbone had a distinguished political career. He proudly represented the 16th District and served as the former president of the Monroe County Legislature. His political work was driven by a strong desire to serve the community and improve the lives of its residents.

Dr. Carbone was a loving father and devoted family man, who cherished his family above all else. His deep faith in God was evident in his regular church attendance and his willingness to help, whether it was passing the collection basket or serving in any way he could. His legacy will live on through the countless lives he touched, both as a physician and as a leader in his community.

Dr. Carbone was also known for his vibrant personality. An avid pool player, he was quick-witted, always ready with a joke, and had a knack for making everyone around him feel special. His sharp sense of style and impeccable wardrobe were the perfect match for his love of fast cars and fine watches—interests he shared with many who were lucky enough to engage in conversation with him. His presence was magnetic, and he had a unique ability to make everyone feel seen and valued.

Joe deeply believed that life was about the relationships we build, the connections we nurture, and the people we support along the way—and he lived that belief every day.

Per his wishes, a private Mass and burial were held by the family.

The family deeply appreciates the outpouring of love, support, and kind words from friends, neighbors, and the wider community during this difficult time. Your compassion has brought us great comfort.

Special thanks to UR Hospice nurses and aides that took special care during his illness. People may make contributions to a charity of their choice in memory of Dr. Joe Carbone.

With heartfelt thanks,

The Carbone Family
