Obituary of Joseph Richard Fasino
W. Irondequoit – “I’m in good shape for the shape I’m in.” If you heard dad say that, you knew it was a good day.
Joseph Richard “Dick” Fasino, Monday, October 20, 2025 – one week after his 89th birthday, he left the loving care of our family and went into the presence of his Lord, Jesus Christ. Though dad dealt with chronic illness, it became a source of untold blessings for our family rather than a burden- his home was the gathering place for shared family meals throughout the week, frequent gatherings of children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and daily devoted care and companionship from his son-in-law, Doug and grandson, Zach.
Dick Fasino was born prematurely in Rochester, NY on October 12, 1936, to parents Joseph Fasino and Edna DeFrank Fasino. The fact that he weighed only two pounds at birth is a testament to his longevity and the many great accomplishments in his life.
Dick joined the U.S. Army in 1956 and served in the 11th Airborne Division until 1958. On January 9, 1960, he married Linda Ann Bolger. He worked at Fasino’s Power Brake Center, Inc. on Jay Street in Rochester, a business that his father started in the 1930’s and that he took over after his father’s death; he retired in 1996.
He always invested much of his time in his children and grandchildren: he loved coaching and supporting baseball teams for Joe, Joelle and Rick in the 1970’s; he was very active with Alex’s Boy Scout Troop 356, helping Alex achieve his Eagle Scout Award and volunteering as a scout leader for many years; he took part in the Soap Box Derby for many years with his grandchildren in the early 2000's. Dad earned his private pilot's license in the mid 1970's and we all remember the many plane trips, mostly local- our favorite trips were over Niagara Falls both during the day and in the evening when the falls were lit up with colors. He loved taking excursions on his boat, Calypso, in the 80's and 90's and our family and friends took many trips on lake Ontario to weekend camping sites and restaurants; he cherished the times spent at his chalet in Bath, NY with family and friends and was and avid deer hunter; dad knew everything there was to know about engines, from small cars to big trucks, and how to fix them. In recent years, he spent much time learning Kali (a Filipino martial art) from Doug, which kept him alert and active. He had a passion for guns and was a collector. He made his own bullets and reloaded his own shells. He visited the area gun clubs often to practice and shoot skeet. Starting in the 90's and continuing for at least the next 20 years, he belonged to the YMCA's Racquetball Club- it was a commitment he enjoyed and was proud of. He loved playing cards- we played as a family often.
Dick is predeceased by his wife of 61 years, Linda Bolger Fasino; he is survived by children Noelle Carvotta (Robert), Gabrielle Fasino, Andrea Morrow (James), Joseph Fasino (Asha), Joelle Marcaida (Doug) and Richard Fasino (Diane); grandchildren Daniel (Brianna Roberts), Andrew and Zachary Martens, Julie Bielecki (Alex), Jessica Rockcastle (Kyle Garbe), James and Brett (Leah Maldin) Morrow, Brynn Baldino (Ethan), Neil Masani, Sheila Xavier (Phil), Alex Fasino (Emma Kimble), Douglas “DJ” (Avery Berk) and Jaden Marcaida, Morgan Brown (Jonathan), Skylar Dixon (Jacob) and Carly Fasino; great-grandchildren A.J. and Ryan Bielecki, Keenan and Conrad Garbe, River, Briar and Rowan Baldino, Chase Mauldin, Theodore Morrow, Logan and Brooklyn Xavier, Josiah, Wynslow and Eilonwyn Brown, Callum Dixon, many cousins, nieces, nephews, and close friends and neighbors who became family over the years.
A memorial service will be held at Paul W. Harris Funeral Home, 570 Kings Highway South, Rochester, NY 14617 on Sunday, November 16, 2025 at 11AM.
