Janet S. Galen

Janet Galen of Canandaigua, NY passed away peacefully surrounded by family on December 28, 2025, at the age of 90.

She was predeceased by her son, G. Thomas Galen, and her sister, Mary Anne Schnorr. Janet is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 65 years, George; her daughters, Joan G. (Jerry) LaMendola and Suzanne G. (Michael) Viola; her cherished grandchildren, Craig (Gigi) LaMendola, Meagan (David) D’Allesandro, Sara Viola, and Thomas Viola; her sisters, Dorothy Stever and Kathleen Copeland; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Janet lived a full and busy life raising her family and working in Irondequoit, NY. She attended St. Margaret Mary Catholic School and Our Lady of Mercy High School. She spent many years working as a pharmacy technician at Wegmans and Wilson Health Center.

A woman of deep faith, Janet regularly attended church and volunteered her time. She greatly enjoyed spending time with friends and family, bowling, reading, solving cryptogram puzzles, and cheering on the Buffalo Bills.

In retirement, when Janet wasn’t attending her grandchildren’s many sporting events, she also loved traveling the world with her husband, friends, and family. Janet and George spent many winters in Bradenton, FL and Sun City Center, FL.

The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the staff at Thompson Hospital, Rehabilitation and Nursing Home for the exceptional and compassionate care shown to Janet.

There will be no prior calling hours. A Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, February 5, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Benedict’s Parish at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 95 N. Main Street, Canandaigua, NY 14424. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Janet’s memory to Camp Good Days and Special Times, 1332 Pittsford-Mendon Road, Mendon, NY 14506.
