Dear Family Laniak,
Mr. Laniak was my Woodworking teacher at Madison High School in the early 70’s. Your dad was my reason I choose Education to become a Woodworking teacher. His class was my favorite class. His Woodworking class was fun, exciting, and challenging. He taught us so much more than just working with wood. Each year Madison had an “Industrial Arts Fair” to highlight all the student work from all the different Industrial Arts classes. He had his wood shop transformed into a manufacturing operation where all of us worked at various stations to produce cutting boards which were handed out to everyone that stopped by. His cutting board manufacturing operation included materials from almost all Industrial Arts classes at the time. It was all assembled in his classroom. Mr. Laniak did amazing projects and activities in that classroom.
Mr. Laniak was a great man, top educator, and countless RCSD students benefited from having him as their teacher. When I retired from the classroom in 2012, I sent him a thank you note for the great career I had and it was all because of him.
May his memory be eternal.

Condolences to the Laniak family. Mr Laniak was my wood shop teacher at Madison High School in the seventies. I graduated in 1974 from Madison. I have shared many times and for many years, that this man could make anything out of wood. What a talent and educator. He was one of my favorite teachers. Most sincere condolences to all his family.

To my cousins, Andy, Matt, Donna, and your families. My deep Condolences to you all for your loss. Your dad was my godfather and held a special place in my heart. During this time of sorrow I choose to remember your father with the good times we shared growing up and the wonderful conversations I had with him on the phone later in life. He was a great guy and I know he was proud of all of you and your children. He will be sorely missed but will always be remembered As he rests peacefully in heaven.

Our condolences to the Laniak Family at this time of loss. Some of my fondest memories of Don were simply standing in his backyard at the river and having a conversation. He carried a welcoming warmth and smile, and he always had time to catch-up on things. He was a great patriarch, very proud of all of his family and their prospects for the future. He will be sadly missed.
Sincerely,
Chuck and Denise Burgen
