Josephine "Jody" Cronau Low. 1934-2026

Josephine (Jody) Cronau Low, 91, of Irondequoit, NY, died peacefully after a long illness Feb. 7, 2026.

Born in New York City, Jody was predeceased by her beloved husband of 52 years, William Hunter Low, Jr.; and survived by daughters Valerie Low (partner Tom Parks), Elizabeth (Paul) Martin; son, Bill (Tracy) Low; granddaughters, Colleen, Emily, Taylor and Elizabeth; great-grandsons River, Walker and Nico; sister-in-law Dorothy Low and nephews.

Jody spent over 80 years residing in Rochester. A proud graduate of Irondequoit High School’s class of 1952, she enjoyed working on annual reunions bringing dear friends together for over 60 years.

Jody was a graduate of Syracuse University School of Journalism, where she was a member of Phi Kappa Phi (campus national honorary society), Theta Sigma Phi (women’s journalism honorary), Rho Delta Phi, (English honorary) and served as President of Delta Gamma sorority. While at Syracuse University, Jody met her future husband and upon graduation accompanied him while he served two years of active military duty in Germany.

From a young age, Jody loved creative writing. Over the years she captured her life’s experiences in poetry and short stories, many of which were published in local newspapers. From 1980 -1990, she worked for the Irondequoit Parks and Recreation Department, where she led Writers’ Workshops, exercise classes and day trips.

A lifelong fan of Syracuse University, Rochester Red Wings, NY Mets and Buffalo Bills, Jody was also a strong advocate for women’s athletics.

Jody celebrated her love of the arts with her family and built many lasting friendships over the years.
