Obituary of Richard G. Heidt

In Loving Memory of Dick Heidt

Richard G. “Dick” Heidt

Irondequoit – On February 15, 2026 at age 91. He is predeceased by his wife, Gail; siblings, Florence Carole, William Heidt and Lois Kendrick. Dick is survived by his children, Susan (Vincent) Dinino, Richard Heidt, Kathleen (Anthony) Peluso, James Heidt and Nancy (Nicholas) Miller; grandchildren, Lyndsay (Ross) Anderson, Allison Dinino, Amanda, Madeline and Ricky Heidt, Emma and AJ Peluso, Mallory Healy-Heidt, Daniel IV, Christopher (Courtney), Matthew (Leah) and Luke (Jaime) Spencer; great-grandchildren, Hattie Cody, Vernon, Fredrik, Darla, Forrest, Maeve, Lisa and Patrick Spencer; brother, Thomas (Patricia) Heidt; brother-in-law, Nick Kendrick; many nieces and nephews.

Dick Heidt, a man whose kindness, warmth, and quiet strength touched everyone who knew him, leaves behind a legacy of love that will never fade.

From the moment he met the love of his life, Gail, as a young teen on Ridge Road, Dick’s heart belonged to her. Their love story spanned more than 58 beautiful years of marriage — filled with laughter, adventure, and a deep devotion that was an inspiration to everyone around them. Together, they built a life rich in love, friendship, and family, always side by side.

Dick had a rare gift for making connections. There wasn’t a person he met that he didn’t befriend. Dick’s warmth and sincerity made everyone feel special. He was a true gentleman — compassionate, caring, and always ready to lend a helping hand. Family meant everything to him, and he dedicated his life to loving and supporting his and Gail’s families with unwavering devotion.

He was a member of the Naval Reserves and then went on to retire from Kodak after a long and fulfilling career.  He was also an avid golfer who cherished time on the course with his sons – the highlight was playing at Torrey Pines in California.  He still enjoyed breakfast with his high school friends on a regular basis at the Parkside Diner.  In his younger years, Dick enjoyed skiing, and he and Gail shared incredible adventures at sea, cruising to the Mediterranean, Hawaii, and other beautiful places. Those trips were about more than destinations; they were about the joy of being together.

Above all, Dick was a family man. He was a proud and loving father of five children, a wonderful “Poppy” to twelve grandchildren, and eight adoring great-grandchildren. His family was the heartbeat of his life, and the stories, love, and lessons he shared will live on through each of them.

Dick’s genuine kindness, his playful smile, and his steady presence made the world a better place. Though he will be deeply missed, his spirit will live on in every act of kindness, every shared laugh, and every cherished memory.

Family and friends may call at Paul W. Harris Funeral Home (570 Kings Hwy. So.) Friday, February 20, 2026 from 3:00 – 6:00 PM.
