Jaquelyn R. “Jackie” Platt
Irondequoit – On February 28, 2026 at age 105. She is predeceased by her husband, Norris J. Platt; sister, Marcia Welz; son, Robert Platt; and son-in-law, Gary Baylor. Norene (Kragh) Platt, Jerrold (Connie) Platt, Douglas (Conchetta) Platt; daughter-in-law, Nancy Platt; 12 grandchildren; many beloved great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
Jackie was born in Sea Breeze, NY to Roy and Florence Meyer. She had many fond childhood memories playing in Sea Breeze Amusement Park, ice skating on Hobbie Pond, and swimming at the beaches of Lake Ontario. She was a life-long Irondequoiter.
Jackie was a devoted homemaker and mother, and the loving wife of 72 years to Norrie Platt. She was a founding member of the Ridge Culver Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, a Sunday-School Teacher, and a tireless advocate for Native American rights. Jackie deeply loved her Indian "family", to whom she was known as "Gramma Jackie". She was a supporter of the Ganondagan State Historic Site in Victor, NY, and served as a committee member for the 200-year commemoration of the 1794 Treaty of Canandaigua. For many years she also provided spiritual support and advocacy for Native inmates in the New York State Penal System.
Friends and family remember Jackie for her kindness, wisdom, independence, and the occasional mischievous prank. She was an expert gardener who cherished her life-long, personal relationship with nature. She loved sunbathing and could lay out in the sun for hours in the summertime. Jackie was a life-long learner who was always reading. She was a deeply spiritual person with a strong faith in the Great Spirit.
Jackie was active and happy to the very end. She was a regular at the Irondequoit Senior Center and greatly enjoyed her community there. Jackie celebrated her 105th birthday last summer with a carousel ride at Sea Breeze Park with friends and family.
