Obituary of Shirley G. London
Passed away peacefully on February 26, 2026 at the age of 84. Shirley is predeceased by her mother and father Louise and Harry London, Brother David and his wife Vicki, her niece Kimber Lee London. She is survived by her nephew Jody London and his wife Hayley and great niece Harlow. Cousins Ed and Carolyn Engel and many other cousins. Good friends Gary and Sue Clarcq.
Shirley lived her whole life in Point Pleasant, N.Y in a home built by her grandfather, mother and father. Growing up she and her family spent many fun filled hours at their cottage on Sodus Bay. They were wonderful places for her and her younger brother David to grow up.
Her Mom and Dad named her after Shirley Temple.
She attended Durand Eastman School for 8 years and then went on to Franklin High School graduating in 1959.
After graduating from RIT she went to work at Eastman Kodak, retiring from there in February 1994. She went back to school learning computers and then went to work in a doctor’s office.
She had graduated with a degree in Art and was really a very artistic person her whole life. When she was younger she worked with her Mom holding ceramic classes in their home. She and her mom started making and collecting beautiful dolls. She loved attending large doll shows and one of her favorite shows was in New Orleans. Over her lifetime she collected many beautiful, valuable dolls. She often carried yarn with her and made lap robes and blankets for people in nursing homes. Later in life she pursued a hobby in Cardmaking (in a big way). While she lived in Assisted Living she held classes for residents and taught others how to make cards.
Shirley was a lifelong active member of Durand United Church of Christ. Over the years she either chaired or was a member of most of the committees and boards in the church. She was a member of numerous women’s circles within the church and participated in a neighborhood Bible Study for over 35 years.
Whenever there was a church activity going on – be it a chicken barbeque, a bazaar or a tea, Shirley would be working. Most often you would find her in the kitchen. She was a good cook.
Shirley loved to travel and had been to England and Ireland many times. She traveled all over the United States including Alaska and Hawaii with many friends. She loved to learn new things and meet new people.
She volunteered and eventually worked at Hillside Children’s Home for many years. She volunteered each week at the Salem Nutrition Center in Rochester for as long as we can remember. You could find her making food, serving food or cleaning up. Many of us also went along to help. In the past few years she worked with Food Link ordering for the kitchen. For many years she has supported and loved many young girls from around the world through Compassion International. Shirley was the President of Church Women United and co-chair of their 100th anniversary celebration. She was presented with the award for “The most Valiant Women” for her out standing volunteerism.
She was a big help to her family. Her brother David lost his wife Vicki when their children Kimber Lee and Jody were very young. Aunt Shirley did all she could to help David and the kids. She was so happy to see Jody marry Haley. Shirley became a very proud Great Aunt. She loved when her Great Niece Harlow would come over to her apartment and play with her yarn and ride on her walker. She would take pictures of her and show them to her friends.
