Obituary of Luisa E. Baars

Luisa E. Baars

 

Irondequoit - On June 7, 2026 at age 89. She is predeceased by her husband, Wim Baars. Luisa is survived by her children, Jose (Chris) Lugo, Elizabeth (Raymond) Erb and Luis (Nora) Baars; grandchildren, Michelle (Katelin), Katelyn and Mary Lugo, Roberto and Anthony Erb, Zoe, Mattheus and Ether Baars; sister, Vicky Martinez; many nieces and nephews.

 

Professionally, Luisa founded the Physical and Occupational Therapy Department at the University of Puerto Rico, Humacao. Luisa dedicated her life to the service of others and held many leadership roles in the non-profit realm including Mary Cariola Children’s Center, IBERO American Action League, and Main Quest Treatment Center at the Health Association. She was committed to supporting the Latino community in Rochester and co-founded MAS Translation Services with her husband to advance language access. Luisa was a Rotarian since 1992, and founded the Rochester Latino Rotary Club. She remained active on many boards and organizations in her community.

Along with her professional accomplishments, Luisa enjoyed spending time with loved ones, traveling, gardening, and actively participating in her church community. In both her professional and personal life, Luisa touched many in long-lasting impactful ways.

 

We welcome all to join us in celebrating Luisa’s fruitful life at Paul W. Harris Funeral Home, 570 Kings Hwy South, Thursday, June 11, 2026 from 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM. Luisa’s Funeral Mass will be held Friday, 10:00 AM at St. Kateri at St. Margaret Mary’s Church - 401 Rogers Parkway, Rochester, NY 14617. Interment to follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, kindly consider donations to the Rochester Latino Rotary Club in Luisa's memory.
