James D. “Jim” Zimmerman

Irondequoit – On August 3, 2026 at age 75. He is predeceased by his parents, Herman and Dorothy Zimmerman; brother, John Zimmerman; mother and father-in-law, Jack and Mary Kelly. Jim is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Barbara Zimmerman; father of, Amy Zimmerman Roenker, Claire (Alan) Freeling and Michael Zimmerman; Papa of Olivia Roenker, Natalie Freeling and Ada Ventura-Zimmerman; siblings, Sharon (Walt) Sanders, Anne (Jim) Georger, Mary Ellen Zimmerman and Sue (Sam) Priem; brothers and sisters-in-law, Joan Zimmerman, John (Sue) Kelly, Tom Kelly and Jim (Anne) Kelly; many loving nieces, nephews and friends.

Jim (Zeke) grew up on the baseball fields of East Irondequoit. He later played baseball, basketball, and football at Bishop Kearney. During his time playing baseball at Bishop Kearney, Jim pitched a 1-hitter and was proud of his article in the local paper. It was in these very same halls where he met his loving wife of almost 52 years. Jim attended St Joseph’s college in Indiana and later went on to work at Xerox and Bausch and Lomb. He retired from the University of Rochester. Jim enjoyed running in the local races around town, cheering on his children and granddaughters from the sidelines or the stage, fishing with his granddaughters in the Adirondacks, weight lifting, history, and many years of creating model airplanes. He could look up into the sky and identify any plane flying overhead. His family was always amazed at his depth of knowledge and love of history. Jim's favorite title was Dad and Papa.

Family and friends may call at Paul W. Harris Funeral Home, 570 Kings Hwy South, Sunday, August 9, 2026 from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM. Jim’s Funeral Mass will be held Monday, August 10, 2026, 10:00 AM at Corpus Christi Church, 864 E Main St, Rochester, NY 14605. To honor Jim, please wear bright colors to his Mass. Interment to follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, kindly consider donations to Rochester Parkinson’s Network or URMC Hospice in Jim’s memory.
