In Loving Memory of Luz María Pacheco “DJ Goldie”

Today, we gather to celebrate and honor the beautiful life of Luz María Pacheco, affectionately known to many as “DJ Goldie”.

Luz María was born in Yauco, Puerto Rico, the daughter of the late Rafaela Alicea and Monserate Pacheco. At the age of 16, she relocated from Puerto Rico and began another chapter of a life that would be filled with family, music, laughter, and many precious memories.

Goldie was preceded in death by her five sisters: Amparo Martinez, Elsa Pacheco, Gladys Sanchez, Leonides Pacheco, and Rafaela Muniz.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory her beloved son, Jose Sanchez; her sisters, Aramita Cruz and Betsy Pacheco; and her brothers, Roberto Pacheco and Edwardo Pacheco, and her beloved nephew, Jonny Pacheco, who faithfully served as her caretaker for the past six years, providing her with care, companionship, and support. She also leaves behind many other family members, friends, and loved ones whose lives she touched throughout the years.

If there was one thing everyone knew about Goldie, it was that she loved music and she loved to dance! Salsa music held a special place in her heart. For approximately 20 years, Goldie shared her love of music as a singer and a DJ, bringing music, rhythm, and joy to others. The name “DJ Goldie” became part of who she was and how so many people knew and loved her.

Goldie also loved to cook. Whether through a meal, a song, a dance, or simply her presence, she had her own special way of bringing people together.

She had a beautiful smile and a personality that reflected her love for life. Goldie appreciated the simple things – the things we sometimes overlook when life becomes busy. She especially loved nature and flowers, and among her favorites were the beautiful lilies. She loved waterfalls, and she found something special in simply watching the rain fall and listening to the peaceful sound of the rain.

Those simple moments brought Goldie happiness. She didn’t need something extravagant to appreciate the beauty around her. A beautiful flower, the sound of rushing water, or raindrops falling could bring her joy.

Today, our hearts are heavy because someone we love is no longer physically with us. Yet, while Goldie may no longer be here for us to see, hug, laugh with, dance with, or sit around the table with, the memories she created will remain with us forever.

Every time we hear a salsa song that makes want to dance, every time we see beautiful lilies blooming, every time we prepare a favorite meal, or remember that unforgettable smile, we can allow those moments to remind us of Goldie.

Her life reminds us that some of the greatest treasures are found in the simplest things: family, music, laughter, good food, nature, and precious moments shared with the people we love.

Although she will not be with us physically, we will forever cherish every precious memory we have of her.

Luz María “DJ Goldie” Pacheco, your music may have stopped here on earth, but the memories, love, and joy you gave us will continue to play in our hearts forever.

Family will receive friends on Thursday, August 13, 2026 from 5:00pm-8:00pm at Paul W. Harris Funeral Home, Inc. at 570 Kings Highway South. Luz will be laid to rest on Friday, August 14, 2026 at 10:00am at Riverside Cemetery.
