Barbara L. Montione (Skromak)

Irondequoit –  On August 21, 2026 at age 83. She is predeceased by beloved husband, Dr. Carl F. Montione DDS: and parents, Edward and Martha (Mocny) Skromak. Barbara is survived by her sister, Marcia Lapham: many nieces, nephews, cousins, dear friends: and longtime girlfriends Carolyn D'Angelo and Carol Rose Fennesey.

Barbara was an Army nurse with the rank of Captain. She served at a surgical Mash unit caring for critical wounded soldiers directly off the battlefield. For her exceptional and dedicated service, she was awarded the honor of receiving the Bronze Star. When asked what she did to qualify for such a high award, in a Barbara way she replied that "they handed them out to everyone!"

After the Army she brought her skills and compassion to Kodak Medical for two years before starting her long-standing career at Rochester General Hospital. She served patients on the medical floor, emergency department and finally in the medical clinic.

During her retirement she enjoyed many years spending quality time with loved ones and was devoted to serving others in need. Baking and making meals for party guests, traveling and hugging her dog Sandy was her way of life. She also took up drawing and painting with her newly made friends in the Irondequoit Art Club. This left several well-done paintings for all to enjoy.

In all a job well done for someone that never gave up in health or sickness and will not be replaced in any lifetime.

Family and friends may call at Paul W. Harris Funeral Home, 570 Kings Hwy South, Sunday, August 30, 2026 from 3:00 PM - 6:00 PM. Barbara's Funeral Mass will be held Monday, 10:00 AM at St. Kateri at Christ the King Church, 445 Kings Hwy South. Entombment to follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to the Vietnam Veterans of America, Chapter 20, P.O. Box 12580, Rochester, NY 14612.
