Obituary of Nancy J. Salzer

Salzer, Nancy J. Irondequoit: Wednesday, January 20, 2016. Born May 2, 1945. She is predeceased by her parents Harold B. and Violet E. (May) Salzer. A graduate of Eastridge High School , she attended M.C.C., and then received her Bachelor of Arts degree magna cum laude from Nazareth College. She also earned a Master of Arts degree in American History from the University of Rochester, and a Master of Library Science degree from S.U.N.Y. Geneseo. She was a retiree from Rochester Public Library where she was employed as a Cataloging Librarian. As a Disability Rights activist, she twice served as President of the Board of Directors of the Regional Center for Independent Living. She was a longtime member of the First Unitarian Church of Rochester and was author of their congregational history, "Covenant for Freedom." In addition to her memoir, "What The Books Mean," she authored articles in disability rights and Unitarian Universalist publications. Survived by cousins Micheal (Karen) Abel, Shelley (Paul) Kuehn, Jeffrey P. Abel, and Heidi A_ Cornelius., and their children and grandchildren and cousins Richard LaRoche and Rodman Salzer, and other cousins. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the First Unitarian Church or to St. Joseph's House of Hospitality (Catholic Workers). Friends are invited to meet the family FRIDAY 11:00 AM at IRONDEQUOIT CEMETERY for a graveside service. Her Memorial Service will be held at a later date.
