Zacharkiw, John "Ostap"
Irondequoit: Passed away peacefully at the age of 87 on Saturday, April 13, 2013 after a long illness. Mr. Zacharkiw is survived by his wife Lidia, and his son Walter "Volodymyr", sister Stefania Moroz, his many nieces and nephews, his sister-in law and brother-in-law Raisa & Tony DeFusto.
John was proud to serve in the U.S. Army during the Korean War Era and to be a U.S. citizen. However, he never forgot the country of his birth, Ukraine whose interests he supported in his words and deeds. John was also a retiree of Dynalec Corp, a member of the Ukrainian Congress Committee, past president of ODFFU. The family wishes to express their gratitude to the staff of the Baird Nursing Home for their care and compassion, especially to his care giver Linda.
Friends are invited to meet the family Wednesday 10:30 AM at ST. JOSAPHATS UKRAINIAN CATHOLIC CHURCH for his Divine Liturgy. Interment, Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to St. Josaphats Ukrainian Catholic Church, 940 East Ridge Road, Rochester, NY 1462 or Ukraine Congress Committee of America.
