Please share a memory of Dwight to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Obark, Dwight Thaddeus Rochester: Dwight, age 60, crossed from this life to the next on April 16, 2013, Tuesday morning at 9:30am. He finally succumbed to the cancer he had been bravely fighting with grace and dignity for nearly 10 years. He is predeceased by his parents, Thaddeus and Millicent(Slominska)Obark and his sister, Melanie(Lanie) Obark. He is survived by his loving wife of almost 40 years, Mary Ann (King); daughter Melissa (Adam Kantor), adoring grandsons, Colton and Sean of Ashtead, UK; son Brian of Rochester, NY; and sisters-in-law Patricia (Paul Lukowski), Kathleen (Marvin Rathburn); brothers-in-law, David (Sharon) Leary, Eugene King, John King and Michael King (Becky Dye) and brother of the heart Jim (Linda) Cardone. Dwight was a man devoted to God, his family, and his Catholic Faith. He was known for his sense of humor and his love of trains. After 30 years of service, Dwight retired from GMAC in 2006. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus for 35 years, beginning at Council 2220 of Hamburg, NY and finishing at St. Pius XII Council of Irondequoit, NY. He was an active member of St. Kateri Tekakwitha Parish in many regards, most notably as a lector and Religious Education teacher. He was especially delighted to serve Mass when the occasion arose. Dwight was an avid toy collector with a special fondness (some may say weakness) for trains (O Scale was his favorite) . He was a member of the TTCS (Toy Train Collector Society) since 1996 and the TCA (Train Collectors Association) since 2007. He enjoyed sharing his hobby with those he loved, especially his grandsons and his nieces (Maggie & Katie) and his nephew(Christopher). He was also actively involved in the Boy Scouts of America as a Committee Chairman for Troop 665 (Depew, NY) and Unit Commissioner in the Eagle District. He was the proud father of an Eagle Scout. Dwight's fondness for pink flamingoes, his boisterous personality and infectious laugh will be well remembered by those whose lives he touched. The family wishes to express their appreciation and gratitude to the Lipson Cancer Center, especially Dr. Zachary Kramer and to the Hospice staff of the Visiting Nurses Service, the Leo Center for Caring, Fr. Peter Bayer, and the Basilian Priests, staff and parishioners of St, Kateri Tekakwitha Parish. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Kateri Tekakwitha Faith Formation Program (445 Kings Hwy S, Rochester, NY 14617). His family will receive friends MONDAY 4:00 - 8:00pm at the funeral home (570 Kings Hwy South). Friends are invited to meet the family TUESDAY 11:00am at St. Kateri at Christ the King Church for his funeral mass. Interment Private.
