Obituary of Rita M. Zimmer

Zimmer, Rita M. (Bodensteiner) Irondequoit: Tuesday October 1st, 2013 at the age of 94. Pre-deceased by her husband, Harold. She is survived by her daughters, Gail(James) VerColen, Terry(Thomas) Blessington, Mary Jo(Thomas) Weckesser, Karen(Brian) Heagney; grandchildren, Craig(Cindy) VerColen, Corey VerColen, Trisha(Christopher) Haley, Tyann Blessington, Timothy(Samantha) Weckesser, Casey(Lauren) Weckesser, Shane Weckesser, Audra(Chad) Heagney Ludwig, Patrick Heagney & Daniel(Ava) Heagney; great grandchildren, Jake & Alex VerColen, Emma Kate & Curtis William Haley, Zoey Weckesser; brother, Ralph(Velma) Bodensteiner; aunt, Dorothy Chappell; many nieces and nephews. Rita was a proud alumna of SUNY Brockport and Nazareth College, having graduated later in life with degrees in Special Education and School Administration. She was a teacher and administrator for 15 years in the Rochester City School District. In her retirement, she traveled worldwide, always ready for the next adventure. Her most important lasting lesson was to treasure experiences rather than material things. Rita was a member of the NYS Teachers Retirement Association, the Rochester Teacher Association and St. Paul Exempts. A special thank you to the entire staff at Maplewood Nursing Home for their loving care for both Rita and her entire family. Her family will receive friends on THURSDAY from 4:00 - 8:00pm at the funeral home (570 Kings Hwy South). Friends are invited to join the family FRIDAY 10:00am at St. Kateri at St. Margaret Mary Church for her funeral mass. Interment Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
