I never attended one of her classes, we never served on the same college committee, and I doubt that we ever had a conversation longer than a quarter of an hour. But she was an excellent office neighbor in Carroll Hall-- =a sources of anecdotes and recommended reading, a cheerful neighbor with a fine sense of humor, a learned academic who wore her learning lightly. I remember her with fondness and admiration. I offer my condolences to Bert, Lauren, and the rest of her family.

Mrs Pivnick cast me in as the lead in The Pink Siamese in 3rd grade at #23 School and sowed the seed for my love of singing. She was lively, supportive, and so much fun. I had no idea she would give a gift that would last a lifetime. "Sing loud so I can hear you."
