Obituary of Louis D'Amanda

D'Amanda, Louis II Irondequoit:Tuesday, January 21, 2014 at age 84. Louis D'Amanda died peacefully in his sleep from complications associated from Alzheimer's disease. Louis graduated from The Harley School in Rochester, NY in 1947. He went on to graduate from Weslyan University, attend Harvard Business School and enter the United States Army in 1956 after marrying June Allis Van Voorhis in 1955. In 1961, he graduated from Cornell Law School, passed the NYS Bar and then joined his father's firm of Chamberlain & D'Amanda. He had "forty years of fun" as a practicing Trial Lawyer. In 1987, he was elected as a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers, the most prestigious honor that can be bestowed on a Trial Lawyer. Louis loved to downhill ski, scuba dive, wind surf and foxhunt. He served on the Genesee Valley Hunt Board of Governor's. He was active in the preservation of open land in the Genesee Valley and was a director of The Genesee Valley Conservancy. In 2004, he was awarded from the United States Equestrian Association's, The Vintage Cup for exhibiting qualities most admired in a sportsman: fairness, generosity, enjoyment of honest rivalry and graceful acceptance of results. Louis approached life with the tenacity of a prize fighter, the fearlessness of a mountain climber and the amusement of a kid at Disneyland. He is survived by his wife Allis (his best buddy), their four children and spouses, Dorothy and John Hayes, John and Kathy D'Amanda, Gale and Jeff Fox, Chris D'Amanda and their 19 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. His family will receive friends FRIDAY 4:00 - 7:00pm at the HARRIS FAMILY CENTER (560 Kings Hwy, Located behind the funeral home.) On Saturday at 10:45am the family will host a time to share stories of Louis' life at the Rochester Yacht Club (5555 St Paul Blvd, Rochester, NY 14617.)
