Joan gave my Mother (Eleanor Van Gorder) one of the best gifts a person could ever give -- a life-long and endearing friendship. Because of their friendship, I have the privilege of remembering many happy times. She had a vivacious and sunny personality and was filled with life. She always made us laugh - especially when she re-enacted the phone calls she patched through, as a telephone operator - a job she must have held early in her life. Your Mom will forever remain in our hearts. Thank you for sharing her with us - our lives are richer because of her spirit, grace, and joy.

Remembering Joan, her Faith, Family, and Friends. I'll miss our diamond friendship (of 75 years), her big sparkling blue eyes, her sincere smile, and her greeting "Eleanor, how ARE you?". She was such a wonderful and caring friend. I will never forget her.

If I had to pick one word to describe Joan, it would be UNIQUE. She was the most interesting, lovable person I have ever known. She loved life, traveling, chocolate and most of all her family. She was so proud of her children and grandchildren and rightfully so. Even with dementia she managed to convey her love. She would bunch up her fingers of one hand and make a ceremony of giving me a gift in my held-out hand. I would ask "a gift?". She would then raise her eyebrows, smile and with that Irish glint in her eye say yes.

It was our privilege to meet Joan (and Hank) through the Iannuzos. We enjoyed their company during vacations in Fenwick Island and at family gatherings. Joan was a pleasure to be around and we will miss her among us, but, her presence certainly lives on through her kids and grandkids.
