Obituary of Joan Virginia Nash

On Thursday, July 3rd, 2014, Joan Virginia (Meyer) Nash, died peacefully at the Friendly Home in Rochester, NY. She was 91 years old. Joan was born in Fairmount, Indiana on March 26, 1923 to William and Margaret Meyer. One of five children, she grew up in Fairmount, Indiana and finished her high school diploma there. In 1946, Joan married Charles Rex Nash, also from Fairmount, and moved to Rochester, New York. In Rochester, Joan enjoyed raising her family, participating in several clubs and organizations, and pursuing her love of art. She also joined the First Unitarian Church of Rochester and was an active member of that community for many years, participating in fundraising activities, the church choir, and working in the church office. After pursuing coursework at the Rochester Business Institute, Joan took a position as a secretary for the law firm Carroll and Creary in downtown Rochester. Later, she worked part-time for a home-care organization before retiring in her late 70s. She enjoyed many of her retirement years visiting with friends and family, and traveling to Europe. In March of 2013, surrounded by loving family and friends, Joan celebrated her 90th birthday. Joan was pre-deceased by her former husband, Charles, and is survived by her three children, Rex Nash and his wife Mikie, of Irondequoit, NY, Phil Nash of Penfield and Cory (Lomonaco) Nash of Irondequoit, NY, and Deborah (Nash) Ott and her husband Gregory Ott of Weatogue, CT, and seven grandchildren, Zachary Nash of Cleveland, Ohio, Tyler Nash of Irondequoit, NY, Brittany Nash of Penfield, NY, Ian Nash of Irondequoit, NY, Jeremy Ott of Boston, MA, Jason Ott of Weatogue CT, and Todd Nash of Ocean City, MD. Joan was known as a passionate lover of art, theater and film within her family and among her close circle of friends. She will be remembered for her zest for life and delight in the marvelous richness of all things related to art and culture, an enthusiasm which she gave as a gift to all who knew her. Her family will receive friends from 1:00 – 3:00 pm at the funeral home followed by a memorial service at 3:00pm.
