Maira, Joseph F.
Irondequoit: Predeceased by his great grandson Oliver and 7 sisters. Joe passed away peacefully on August 1, 2014 at the age of 88. Raised in Dunmore PA, born on July 12, 1926. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Jeanette Morella Maira, children, Anthony, Joseph (Ana), Paul, Sue (Jeff), Steven (Monica), Janice (Russell) and Lucille, 21 grandchildren and a great grandson, many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He will be remembered as a man with great love, warmth and affection to all his family and friends.
Joe worked at Strong Memorial Hospital for over 30 years where he was a supervisor of the painting and carpentry shop. After retirement he continued to work for over 15 years, at Frontier Stadium (Red Wing Baseball) as a parking lot attendant, always greeting all his customers with a smile. He loved baseball and was an avid fan of the New York Yankees.
His other hobbies and interests included watching his grandchildren participate in sporting events and school activities. Joe was an avid bowler and he shared this passion with family and friends for over 19 years. He bowled in various senior men leagues at Empire Bowl in Webster. Joe was a WWII Veteran, serving the Navy from 1943-1946.
No prior visitation. Friends are invited to meet the family Tuesday 11:00am at St. Kateri at Christ the King Church for his funeral mass. Entombment, Irondequoit Cemetery. To share a memory or send the family a condolence, please visit www.harrisfuneralhome.com.
