Sincere sympathies to you, Aunt Joyce and to all Uncle Bernie's nieces and nephews.
My fond memories are of Bernie's many hand-painted cards sent for our birthdays and anniversaries. I also remember the many newsy and funny letters he typed on his computer and received by many of us. Of course, he expected a reply and continued to respond back as long as he got one.
He always either had a joke to tell or something to say, often to strangers, that got them laughing. He loved to make us laugh, even making fun of himself often.

Bernie was a long time friend of my father Henry Scalzo. I called Bernie when my father was dying of cancer and informed of my father's situation. They had not spoken in several years. Bernie called a few of their childhood friends and paid my father a visit with them. It was such a great thing he did. I would see Bernie occasionally out walking in Irondequoit where we both lived. He was always smiling and had a great sense of humor. I am glad I knew him. Tom Scalzo
