Barbara, or Barbie, as she was known in her younger years was a kind-hearted person who loved to help or protect family and friends. While growing up in Rochester she was very happy to have a younger sister, Mary, who she loved very much. Her parents, Bill & Lucille Bailey loved to be a part of their daughter’s life, and believed she would do well in life no matter what she chose. She loved to dance and sing and was very encouraged by her parents to develop that talent. She loved her cousins as well and found herself protecting and watching out for them too at times. As she grew up, she decided that nursing would give her the most satisfying, interesting, and purposeful time of her life. It agreed with her personality and desire to help those less fortunate. While attending St. Mary’s School of Nursing she formed life-long friendships with fellow classmates Marie Demarco, Bunny, Sully, Anne and Lorraine. Barbara and Marie remained close to the end. Together, with their nursing friends they experienced & learned things that they would remember, laugh about, and cherish for the rest of their lives. She would go on to inspire her younger sister, Mary, and eventually a granddaughter, Katelyn to enter the nursing profession. Along her journey in life, she met two men, Dave and Ed at different times of her life, and became a devoted wife , mother and step-mother. As life would have it, their health failed and she found herself playing the role of protector, caregiver, and guardian for a loved one again. She was a strong women with a gentle heart. She gave birth to 4 boys and a girl which eventually created a lot of activity in her life, but also brought her much pride & joy. She raised and stood by them all in the peaks & valleys of their lives helping them to be the best they could be. She was loyal and devoted to her Irondequoit friends Pat, Joan, Lynn, Diane, Mary Ellen, Elaine, and Pat affectionately known as “The Mouths of Irondequoit.” Barbara was an avid reader who loved a good mystery and volunteered to teach inner-city youth the joy of reading. Never without a pet in her life, Nippy, her feisty black cat and Bonnie her white and cuddly mixed terrier will finally get to see her again. She volunteered at Lollypop Farm when she could. Her real love since childhood was singing and dancing on stage. She loved participating in and socializing with all the parents involved in the Bishop Kearney Parents shows which lasted for close to 10 years. These times with her friendships and family were her fondest memories. She also enjoyed traveling to England, Scotland, Ireland, Italy, Wales and Germany. Her love of singing, dancing, animals, children and sports is evident in all her children & grandchildren. She has given us all an example of how to live a simple, fulfilling, happy life, with so much dignity & love. We will miss you Barbie.
