Obituary of Michael Lesiv

Lesiv, Michael Rochester: Thursday, July 7, 2016 at the age of 92. Pre-deceased by his beloved wife of 70 years, Daria. He is survived by his sons, Peter (Ulana) Lesiv & Roman (Kathy) Lesiv; grandchildren, Stephen, Matthew, Porter, Michael & Ethan; cousin in Wausau, Wisconsin and relatives in Ukraine. Michael (Mychajlo) was born in Yosypovych, Ctryj Region, Ukraine. He met and married Daria in a post war displaced person camp in 1945. They lived for a period in Coventry, England where Michael was active in the Ukrainian Youth Association of Britain as well as the Association of Ukrainians in Britain. Michael and Daria settled in Rochester in 1962, where they raised their family as part of the local Ukrainian community. For many years Michael was the head of the Rochester chapter of the Ukrainian American Youth Association (CYM) as well as the committee chairman for the CYM youth camp (Cholodny Yar). He was an active member of the Organization for the Defense of Four Freedoms for Ukraine. Michael was also an active member and former trustee of the Ukrainian Catholic Church of Epiphany. More recently, Michael was a committee member for the commemoration of the millennial of Ukrainian Christianity, the Ukrainian Relief Committee as well as the Children of Chornobyl Relief and Development Fund. After retiring from Xerox, Michael enjoyed playing golf, cross country skiing, gardening, playing cards and sharing his many life stories with family and friends. His family will receive friends Sunday, July 17th from 1-3pm at the funeral home (570 Kings Hwy S.) Panachyda 3pm. Friends are invited to meet the family Monday, July 18th at 10:00am at Ukrainian Catholic Church Of Epiphany for his Divine Liturgy. Interment Holy Sepulchre Cemetery
