I would like to share my condolences with Thom and his family. Mary Frances was one of the most respected women I knew. Whenever Mary Frances was coming for a Christmas visit or at any other time, it was a grand event. Mary Frances knew how to work the room and spend time with everyone in attendance. Even at an advanced age, her memory was especially sharp and she was the life of the party. Some of my favorite moments with Mary Frances were receiving a custom-made carousel Christmas tree ornament in 1996, which still hangs on our tree to this day, as well as the 2012 Christmas when Mary Frances bought everyone Notre Dame t-shirts for the upcoming National Championship game. I have never seen an elderly person more fired up for a sporting event than I saw Mary Frances that day, a true testament to her energy level and team spirit.
