Our family mourns the passing of our beautiful matriarch, our walking history..Phyllis (Felicia) Jachimczak at the age of 94. She was a doting mother of 4; grandmother of 8; great-grandmother of 4 and great-great grandmother of 2.
Born in Warsaw, Poland in 1921 to Franciszka Duszinski Walczak and Jan Walczak, she witnessed the horrific destruction of her beloved City during WWII; as a young Polish woman her life's hopes and dreams ended when she was forced onto a cattle car to be transported to a German Forced Labor Camp. When the war ended she spent five years in a Displaced Person's (DP) Camp in Bremen Lesum in Germany patiently waiting to emigrate to America.
Despite the language barrier and difficulty acclimating to her adopted country she raised her four children in a Catholic environment teaching goodness, thriftiness and respect for others. She was active in the Polish Community for many years and a member of the Polish Arts Group. Thanks to her love of Polish customs and traditions she spent several years helping to teach dance, assisted and even participated in many Church plays. A prolific writer of letters she documented her WWII experience at the age of 90 by writing an article she sent to a Polish newspaper which was later published! Those who knew our Bunia were treated to her wry sense of humor. Everyone scurried as she insisted on driving a car again at the age of 94! Despite a weakened heart our Bunia wasn't prepared to leave us just yet! She was on a mission to go car shopping! We mourn the loss of our tough, 5 ft. little dynamo; a gentle, kind and funny soul!
Our Holidays will never be the same. God must have needed her more. Rest in peace, our little "Bunia"!
