Blyth, Sydney M. Irondequoit: Sunday, December 4, 2016 at the age of 94. Originally of Dundee, Scotland. Pre-deceased by his loving wife, Alma. He is survived by his sons, Eric M. Blyth and Andrew H. Blyth; sister, Irene Melvin; sisters-in-law, Barbara (Craig) Ryder and Irene Blyth; many nieces and nephews. The family wishes to thank the many health caregivers that Sydney visited over the years. Special appreciation to Dr. Peter Van Brunt, the doctors and nurses at Rochester General Hospital, Hill Haven Rehabilitation Hospital and the Leo Center for Caring for their wonderful and compassionate care. Sydney served as a wireless officer in the British Merchant Navy and a Chief Petty Officer in the British Royal Navy during World War II. In November 1956, Sydney immigrated to the United States to accept a job with Stromberg Carlson in Rochester, New York. He became a citizen of the United States on May 1, 1962, and was later employed by the Rochester Telephone Company until his retirement in 1986. Sydney was a member of the Masonic fraternity for over 52 years and belonged to ERAC Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons, The Valley of Rochester of Scottish Rite Masons, and Damascus Shrine. Sydney's memorial service will be held Saturday, December 17, 2016 at 2 pm at Lake Avenue Baptist Church (72 Ambrose St. Rochester, NY 14608). In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed in Sydney's name to Shriners Childrens' Hospital, 2900 North Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, FL 33607 or Leo Center for Caring, 1500 Portland Ave., Rochester, NY 14621.
