Hrywnak, Tamara
Rochester: Friday, February 10, 2017 at the age of 94. Pre-deceased by her husband, Teodor and son, Orest. She is survived by her sons, Dr. Severko Hrywnak, Roman Hrywnak; grandchildren, Michael & Adriana Hrywnak.
Tamara was born in Ukraine in 1922. By the age of 17 she was taken by Nazis from her family to a work camp during WW II. After liberation of the camp by US troops, Tamara was given a choice to go back to the Ukraine or go to Venezuela. She prayed all night and God told her not to go back to the Ukraine and so she chose to go to Venezuela where she met her future husband, Teodor. After 3 dates they got married and came to Rochester, New York. Tamara and Teodor were married for 44 years until his death in 1994.
Teodor held the longest work record at Delco factory in 1973, having not missed one day of work or take a vacation for 22 straight years.
Tamara and Teodor both belonged to St Josaphat's church, where they participated in the church choir and church festivals. She proudly help make pierogies every Wednesday for 28 years for the church festival.
Tamara was an active member of the Ukrainian Woman's Society Branch 43 in Rochester. Her She was a dedicated homemaker, mother and her hobby was embroidery. She was very proud of Her three sons, Severko, Orest and Roman all received College degrees and she was very proud of each of them. She was also most proud of her grandchildren, Adrianna and Michael who also went onto college and receive college degrees. Tamara was the #1 fan of the Rochester Razor Sharks, the pro basketball team that her sons own. Tamara always had a smile on her face and a helping attitude for everyone. She didn't believe in saying no to anyone who needed help.
Her family will receive friends Sunday 1-4pm at the funeral home (570 Kings Hwy S.) Panachyda 3:30pm. Her Divine Liturgy will be held Monday10:00am at St. Josaphats Ukrainian Catholic Church.
