I am sorry to hear of the passing if Mr. Hawke. He was my geometry teacher at Franklin High School in 1959-1960 and was the best teacher I had in all of my high school years. When teaching us geometry he emphasized, over and over, the importance of using logic, drawing upon what we already knew, instead of just memorizing facts and rules and theorems. This approach formed a major element in my own 40+ years of college teaching. Very often when telling this to my own students I would credit Mr. Hawke for instilling this in me through his teaching. I was always thankful to him for his philosophy on teaching and the impact that it had on at least this one student. He was a great educator.
