" A Soldier Died Today "
Irondequoit Sunday, November 22, 2009. Dr. Doyle O. Etter, Phd. at age 88 leaving behind a devoted family and the life he loved so much. Doyle was born May 29, 1921 in Columbus, Ohio to Emmett and Fannie Etter. He was a United States Army WWII Veteran where he bravely served as a 1st & 2nd Lt. in the 7th Engineer Battalion of the 5th Infantry Division under Omar Bradley's 1st Army & transferred to General George Patton's 3rd Army. He fought bravely in the Battle of the Bulge and helped liberate France. After the war, he returned to Belfast, Ireland to marry his beloved Margaret Patricia Collins on March 5, 1946. He is pre-deceased by his loving wife Margaret and daughter Angela, and is survived by his children; Michael (Iya) Etter, Regina (Charles) Wilcox, Daniel (Marsha) Etter, Mary C. Etter, Donald (Xiao) Etter, John (Lisa) Etter, Brian (Maryann) Etter, Eileen (James) Burke; 19 grandchildren and 12 great grand children. Doyle held a Doctorate in Chemical Engineering from Ohio State University. He was a Senior Engineer at Eastman Kodak for 40 years and developed several patents for them. Doyle was an extremely generous and loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He enjoyed traveling America, golfing and watching "his" Ohio State Buckeyes, but mostly he enjoyed spending time with his family. He was a survivor and showed amazing strength and courage. Special thanks to the staff of Highland Hospital W4 & W7 for the loving care they afforded Doyle.
His family will receive friends SUNDAY 2-5 pm at the funeral home. Friends are invited to meet the family Monday 10:00am at ST. THOMAS THE APOSTLE CHURCH for his funeral mass.
