Skip and I want to express our sadness hearing of Monty's death. Working for him was my first experience working in a law firm, having come from Kodak, and his patience and ability to teach turned me into a pseudo paralegal by the time he was made partner at Harris, Beach. I would ask why is it called a "brief" when it's anything but, or why do we do it this way? He always had a logical, easy to understand explanation. He was a fresh attorney just out of law school and I was new to legal work, having come from Kodak, so we learned together. I even began to change his letters to his father to make them less legalese.  I'd give him what he dictated as well as my version. He always decided my version was less formal.
We stayed with his kids several times, and I remember telling Monty that we had taken Alicia, Jay and Lindsay out to eat. He was amazed that we had dared, because they had not taken the kids to a restaurant, and very pleased to hear that all 3, though very young, had behaved beautifully.
I saw Monty several years ago and he talked about his kids and grandchildren with so much pride. I know you will miss his sense of humor and kind nature. I have been thinking of him lately and wondering how to contact him, and am so sorry not to have had the opportunity to tell him what an influence he was on my life. He will be missed and remembered often. Sandy Wingate
