Obituary of Jean Porter Franks
Rochester: Franks, Jean. Tuesday, June 19, 2018 at the age of 85. Pre-deceased by husband Donald. Her daughters, Rebecca and Lydia, and their families survive her. Jean was the daughter of Muriel (Brooks) and William Porter. She was born in Tarrytown, NY. She graduated from high school in East Providence, RI and went on to get her Bachelor's Degree in Music from the Oberlin Conservatory of Music at Oberlin College, OH. After marrying, she and Donald moved to Voorheesville, NY. In 1981, they moved to Rochester, NY. Jean was an accomplished pianist and organist who was involved in music throughout her life. She played organ and directed choir at a number of churches in the Albany, NY and Rochester, NY areas. She was a member of the Capital Hill Choral Society, the Monday Musical Club, and a number of other musical organizations. She also worked at School of the Arts in Rochester, accompanying student performances on piano. In her later years, Jean provided comfort to those around her in assisted living by sharing her musical talent at ecumenical services and performances. We will remember her always for her gentle kindness, her compassion for others, her appreciation of nature, her ability to find the silver lining in tough situations, and her unwavering love for her family. Inurnment at Locust Grove Cemetery, Merrimac, MA. Private.
