Jurchynsky, Omelan "Emile" East Irondequoit: 83 passed away after long illness on December 4, 2009. Predeceased by his parents and two brothers in Ukraine. Omelan is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Helene, his three daughters and their spouses Nadine Jurchynsky, Nathalie and Peter Gruber, Christine and Paul Booth, seven grandchildren Daniele, Thomas, Danielle, Alex, Peter, Max and Sam. Omelan is also survived by his sister and sister in-law in Ukraine and sister in-law and brother in law in France. Omelan was born in Ukraine on August 17, 1926. He fled to Germany and remained there until after WWII when he fled to northern France and married Helene his wife. Omelan was trained as a painter and wallpaper hanger and was active in the Ukrainian community. In 1958, he and his family moved to Rochester, NY where he was an active member of CYMA and taught Ukrainian dancing for approx. 20 years. He worked at Strong Memorial Hospital for 5 years, then Eastman Kodak until his retirement in 1988. He graduated from RIT with an associates degree in Fine Arts in 1973. His passion was nature photography and he received many awards for his photographs. His family will receive friends SUNDAY 3-5 pm at the funeral home. Panachyda 4pm. Friends are invited to meet the family MONDAY 10:30 AM at ST. JOSAPHATS UKRAINIAN CATHOLIC CHURCH for his divine liturgy. Interment private at Irondequoit Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Children of Chernobyl.
