Brookins, Richard W. Pittsford: Thursday, October 11, 2018 at age 96. Predeceased by his wife, Virginia C. and son, Gary S. Brookins. Richard is survived by his children, David (Eileen) Brookins, Donald (Joyce) Brookins, Terry (Candace) Brookins, Carol (Todd) Northrop; 11 Grandchildren, 11 Great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Richard served with the 28th Infantry Division in the US Army, European Theater during WWII. In December 1944, he and his SignalCompany soldiers hosted a St. Nicholas Party for the children of Wiltz, Luxembourg. At this party Richard took the role of St. Nicholas. The town's people never forgot this act of kindness. In 2016 he was presented the Luxembourg Military Honor Medal, the highest award presented by the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg. Richard retired from Rochester Telephone after 36 years of service. He was a founding member of the Genesee Valley Chapter of the Veterans of the Battle of the Bulge. Richard also volunteered at Rochester Reachout Radio and Elderberry Express. His family is grateful for the services provided by Professional Assistance for Seniors, with very special thanks to Evelyn, Eileen and Betty Jo for their loving care. Friends are invited to join the family WEDNESDAY 11:00 AM at ALL SEASONS CHAPEL AT WHITE HAVEN MEMORIAL PARK for his funeral service.
