Obituary of Mary M. O'Rourke

O'Rourke, Mary M. Irondequoit: June 10, 2019. Predeceased by parents Clarence and Eileen Maher of Bergen, NY; husband of nearly 50 years, John J. O'Rourke II; son Patrick; brothers James and Richard Maher; and sister Theresa Keenan. Survived by her children, John J. III, Maureen, (George Sambataro); grandson, Michael (Andra) Sambataro; sister-in-law, Ann Maher; brother-in-law, James Keenan; and many cousins, nieces and nephews. A graduate of Bergen HS and Genesee Hospital School of Nursing, Mary was a dedicated, life-long care giver who worked as a registered nurse in a range of healthcare settings. She was a member of the US Cadet Nurse Corps, and the Bernice Wondergem "Circle" among other nursing groups. Mary also volunteered with community organizations including Literacy Action and Meals on Wheels. As a 68 year resident of Irondequoit and St. Thomas the Apostle (St. Kateri) Parish, Mary was involved in many parish activities/events, and particularly enjoyed her work and devotions with the Legion of Mary. Throughout her life, Mary was a trusted and generous friend whose steadfast support, quick wit and beautiful smile will remain with all those who knew her. No prior calling. Friends are invited to meet the family SATURDAY JUNE 22 11:00 AM at St. Kateri at St. Cecilia Church for Mary's funeral mass. Interment private. In lieu of flowers, masses may be said in Mary's name.
