Elyjiw, Daria Rochester, NY: Tuesday, May 26, 2020 at the age of 89. Predeceased by her son Alexander (2008) and husband Zenon (2011). She is survived by children Vera (Yuri) Sytch, Marta (Harry) Brewer, George Elyjiw, and Peter (Tamara) Elyjiw; grandchildren Konstantin, Kalyna, and Natalia Sytch (Mina Maksemous), Tim (Emily) Brewer, Katie (James) Dwyer, and Mike Brewer, Danya and Mark Elyjiw, and Lucas Elyjiw; and great-granddaughter Hadley Brewer. Daria was born in Lviv, Ukraine (then Poland). WWII brought her to Austria and Germany, where she lived in a displaced person camp with her father, stepmother, and stepsister until they emigrated to Canada. There she met her husband, Zenon, and with him she moved to the States. Together they raised five children, who were the focus of Daria’s life. Her passions included sudoku, looking up words in Ukrainian dictionaries, and making other people feel loved, often by feeding them Ukrainian food. Daria was "Mama Elyjiw" to many friends of her children. Private service and interment at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
