I'm shocked and saddened to hear of Bahman's passing. We worked together briefly at GE Energy Consulting. He was a super star in the energy industry and he was a kind hearted man. He will be missed.

I am so deeply shocked and sad to hear of Bahman's passing. I worked with him for a couple of years up until last year. We would spend hours on the phone working remotely with each other. He would tell me about his wife. He would share with me stories of his travels to Iran. At one point we were working together on a project that re-imagined the future of the electricity industry and we had to work all through the Christmas holidays. I was working remotely from the Middle East and would be looking forward to getting on the phone with him at midnight or 1 am after a long family dinner to hear his voice and work together. We also worked together on a project to help the Canadian government planning for its electricity sector. I learned so much from him. He was deeply knowledgeable, kind, funny, honest ... I cannot express enough how saddened I am to hear this news. He has been on my mind several times this past year and I have been wanting to reach out to him. I wish I did. While I haven't had a chance to meet his wife in person I would like to send her my deepest and most sincere condolences. Bahman loved you deeply - we all knew it from the way he spoke about you. I wish I could be paying my respects in person

Bahman was my friend, philosopher and guide. I came to know him about six years back and enjoyed his insatiable appetite to understand more of just about everything. We shared our reading list and I still have fond memories of our discussion of Indian and Eastern authors over the years. I am still not able to recover from the shock of his leaving us so fast.
I miss our weekly Tuesday evening calls where we used to talk about our projects. His sharp intellect and deep insights will always be cherished by me. My Tuesday evenings have changed forever.
I always admired your humility and the commitment which you had for all the reviews that we made you do for our projects.
My heartfelt condolences to the family. May God give you the strength to bear this great loss.
May your soul rest in eternal peace Bahman.
Your dear friend and colleague.

Bahman was simply one of my favorite people and I am still reeling from his sudden loss. We were close friends and colleagues together for 5 years, until I left GE in 2015, and had kept in touch since, speaking just a week before his heart attack. He was still full of life and that insatiable intellectual curiosity.
Gissou, in all our many travels together, Bahman always spoke of you so lovingly, I feel like I know you, too! I thought you would appreciate this recollection of our travels:
One of my favorite memories of our year-long USTDA-sponsored smart grid project with China EPRI came when Bahman made his first visit with me to Beijing in March, 2012. The project had met some early bumps and we were off to a rocky start with our executive sponsor, Dr. Bai Xiaomin. Bahman’s authoritative presentation on Demand Response earned Dr. Bai’s attention, and they started to bond over a shared love of Fred Schweppe’s text book. That night, we were invited out to a fancy Mongolian restaurant — part of a special enclave of venues reserved for Chinese government officials to host and impress international visitors. Our table was in its own yurt with a giant hot plate in the middle, on which was roasting a whole lamb. As a vegetarian, I was in danger of losing face with the client when the meal started and various body parts were offered up. But Bahman saved the day (and maybe the whole year-long project) when he innocently asked “Does anyone else want the eyes?” As an Iranian-born Azerbaijani, Bahman grew up eating organ meats and was delighted to be offered such a delicacy. Needless to say, our Chinese hosts were delighted to oblige! Dr. Bai was charmed and would later host Bahman and Gissou when they came back to China on vacation after our project was over.

I just hear the news of your passing, and not knowing where else to send my thoughts, I felt I would send them to you.
You and I first met when I led the Pan Canadian Wind Integration Study when I was with CanWEA. From the beginning you were a kind, gentle, patient, observant, passionate, and proud leader of your team. You approached the work with an enthusiasm that was evident from the beginning, whether that be from the time you spent to explain things, the late night emails, or the willingness to go above and beyond. I saw this same passion when you managed the RECSI work after I joined NRCan. We enjoyed time together after the work was done, shared dinners and breakfasts together, and a few drinks from time to time. I never hesitated to help when I could, and you did the same for me.
My friend, tears came to my eyes when I learnt of your passing this morning. I am sad for your family, and I am sad for the whole integration community for this loss of a wonderful and spirited person. A colleague, husband, friend and brilliant mind.
May you Rest in Peace Bahman Daryanian.
Your old friend and colleague,
Tom

Today, I was told about the passing of Dr. Bahman Daryanian. Although, I never had the pleasure and privilege of working with him and directly interacting with him, being also in the power and energy industry, I am well aware of his many and tremendous contributions to the field. This was truly heart-wrenching news and my deepest, and most heartfelt condolences to his dear family. I will pray ardently for the progress of his precious soul, and equally pray that God may give some solace to his grief-stricken family. He was no doubt an exceptional gentleman, and certainly an extraordinarily accomplished engineer. He will be truly missed by all. With deepest condolences and prayers, Pouyan Pourbeik
