So sorry to hear of Susan's passing. I knew her through friends when she lived here in California in the '80's. Her voice was kind but she was no push over. She would tell you straight up if you're were out of line. And she absolutely had the greatest laugh of anyone I've ever met...when you heard it for the first time you knew you were with a very special person. As if that wasn't enough, Susan had a smile that was so genuine. It said I appreciate you and that she considered you a friend.
My condolences to Susan's family and all her friends (and I'm sure there are many all over the country if not the world). Losing someone like Susan is not just another passing we mourn and then get back to living our lives. No, Susan's passing will take time to accept and understand. We will miss her everyday and whenever we are reminded of her by something we see or hear that she had a connection with. I feel an emptiness from her passing and I was only a peripheral friend. I can't imagine the heartache those closest to her are going through right now.
God's Speed Susan. Heaven just got a whole lot more loving and caring.

It hasn’t even been a week and I feel so lost without my best friend.
I’m going to miss my good morning texts, I’m going to miss calling you at least 10 times a day just to annoy you, I’m going to miss coming home everyday on my lunch break just to check on you, I’m going to miss you waking me up at the ass crack of dawn for a “puffer”, I’m going to miss our trips to Marshalls. The list can keep going but just know I’m going to miss everything about you.
You were my everything Mama. I love and miss you dearly.

Susan, aka affectionately "Slapper" to her CA friends. I loved your laugh. It always seemed that you were doing your best to restrain yourself, but you couldn't help but laugh, and we had plenty of good times to laugh about. Too many to mention them all. Some of them were the El Capitan camping trip, the Santa Barbara wine festival, Pajama parties, Halloweens, and of course, the Party Barges on Lake Mead. There were also the answering machine antics. I remember how mad you were that somebody (me) whistled the entire "Little Pink Houses" song into your machine and didn't leave their name.
The day you drove away from my house in West LA towing your Jeep and leaving CA behind I told you it was the end of an era. You were upset with me saying that, but it was. I knew how much I was going to miss you. What a great group of friends we had, and your apartment two blocks from the ocean in Santa Monica was the anchor of many of our activities. Even though we didn't see each other much after you left CA, I knew we would always be connected.
I love you and I miss you.

Enjoy the heavens Susan my dear. I will miss you each and every day but I will continue to cherish the lifetime of memories we made in Cali forever.
Jack and Olivia, your mom was the greatest friend any one could ask for. I was incredibly lucky to have met her and would give the world to see her just one more time.
My deepest condolences to you both and to you as well Kim and Bobby.
I chose the cupcake candle to celebrate your life Susan and because I knew the first thing you would think of was that you wished it were a real cupcake to smash in my face.
I love you my dear. Until we meet again.

I wasn’t even sure I could write a story that would possibly bring together my emotions or recount a relationship that has existed for 55 years of my life. Susan Schlafer was my first friend in life, from the time I was 5 years old. I don’t remember that exact moment we met, but as I tried to organize my thoughts, and the individual moments we touched each other’s lives, both large and small, I realized the story is truly impossible to tell in its entirety.
Susan and the whole Schlafer family were my entire childhood, but they have also been a huge part of my world for every decade that followed, until today, this moment, I try to come to terms with Susan’s passing, and having a huge part of that story come to an end. But oddly enough, I’m realizing through writing this tribute, that the story really doesn’t ever come to an end, not when a person has imprinted their presence in your memories and the times you will hold dear for your entire life.
And now I try to say goodbye to my friend Susan. People always say you carry others who have passed from your life in your memories and in your heart. How very simple that idea is, that a lifetime can be wrapped up in such a neat little bow. I believe you don’t just carry people you have loved with you, like a token or memento. They remain a physical embodiment of everything that made you who you are, what you’ve lived through, and the person you’ve become. To experience true joy in life, you must know and recognize the gift of the people who have graced your life. And my friend Susan, you’ve brought that joy to me and so many others throughout your life. Be at peace Susan, and I hope you brought with you the knowledge that your legacy is the friends and family who have loved you so dearly.
Love, your “first” friend, Judy (Jones)

You will be missed Susan. From the fun times on Lake Meade in our youth with the gang to now as we all grow older. Oh how we grow to appreciate those memories and those memory makers in our lives. You were one of those Susan. So fun and full of life. Me now at 57, it seems like those days 30 years ago were yesterday. You will be so missed by so many but your memory is forever alive and cherished.

Susan, If only I could share the memories in my head, it would fill volumes with laughter and fun. Walking out of the Elton John concert and someone yelled out, "GMACB", yea, that was me. Or living out of the back of a convertible Mustang for the labor day Weekend along the California Coast, or dancing atop the Winnebago at the Stones concert, or the Party Barge(s),. Your nickname was "Slapper" because pre 911 we were able to book your flight to Vegas as Susan "Slapper". When you boarded the plane the attendant looked at your ticket only to ask, "really, your name is "Slapper", and you were now labeled hence forward.
You are a beautiful sole Susan, and touched so many of us with your wonderful laugh. Olivia and Jack were your babies and so thankful you had the time with them you did, you were so proud of them.
Please rest now Susan, your work is done. The seeds you sowed are full of life and will continue to make everyone proud.
I will always love you, my dear sweet friend.
