Dr. Seuss said, "Sometimes you will never know the value of a moment until it becomes a memory." To remember is a blessing. It's our God-given ticket to time travel. As we reminisce, we celebrate the best, learn from the worst, and glean a deeper understanding of what it means to be alive right here, right now. This is what I learned from long conversations with my Uncle Harry over decades on the telephone several times a month. He now is in the presence of his wife, Midge, and I can hear both of them shouting for future Buffalo Bill's victories! He will also consistently wear this New York Yankee cap during baseball season. He enjoyed his retirement time in the "Islands" and would tell me tales of French Days celebrations. He would plant and tend to marigold flowers during the summers at the Islands in memory of his dear wife. He could never pass up a good fresh fish fry. My phone conversations were a beautiful gift from the Lord over the years. I am reminded to live in the present, but to visit the past just long enough to learn from it, savor its gifts and take away what will help me live my daily moments to the fullest.
Thank you Uncle Harry for sharing your experiences and life with someone who lived so far away and known as "California Calling". Your niece, Diane
