Kodak Park / Lake Avenue was a family neighborhood into the 1970's. We shoped at Grinnans Market, Nate's was our Pharmacy, Johnson's our bakery, Men got their cuts at Vince's and the ladies at Salon De Paris. We walked everywhere church school, work, and play.
I walked to Grinnan's early Saturday mornings to prepare the weekly grocery deliveries (pre Amazon). And Vince was there with a smile and a wave. Someone's Dad or brother was always in there getting a cut, but the hand always waved whether with a scissor or a brush in it. His shop or Nate's were a safe haven in case that stranger stopped a car and offered candy to a child, or anyone on their way to work, shop or pick up something for Mom.
When he closed for vaction, it's as if the security was gone for a week.
I'm sad to hear of his passing. Memories forgotten have come back and it brings a smile to my face thinking of him.
With deepest sympathy,
