We remember Bob from two trips he and Anne led, one to Turkey and one to Egypt. We also enjoyed hearing about other travel experiences they had, including one on a canal boat in France. They enjoyed the trip, but Bob noted that the showers were so small that he couldn’t turn around. “So,” he said, “I had to wash half myself one day and the other half the next!”

I had the privilege of working with Bob Allen as a fellow union member. He was the kindest, humblest man I have ever met. He was wise, smart and with a sense of humor. He will be missed.

Mr. Allen was by far my favourite teacher at East High School when the RCSD reorganized and transferred Minroe High students to East (circa 1970-ish)@. I was in his eleventh grade American History class. It’s been a long time, nearly forty years, but I remember that he was out for a month or so on sick leave. As our class had studied the US Constitution with him, we made a Get Well card for him in the form of the Constitution. When he returned to class, he told us how it was worth being out just to receive that card. I recall writing to him when I was in college to let him know that I had declared my major in History. Condolences to you. May all your precious memories comfort you. Share those memories with his grandchildren and all who will come after and know that he touched many lives.

Mr. Allen was my Homeroom teacher at Ben Franklin High School back in 1966. He was a very kind man and had quite the sense of humor. He was respectfully known as The Jolly Green Giant, and I do believe he got a kick out of that. I see he had the same smile I remember from school. I am so sorry for your loss. As a child I met Bob at Emmanuel Presbyterian Church where his father-in-law was the pastor. He and Anne welcomed our family into the church community and throughout the years kept in touch with my parents. When I became a teacher it was nice to see Bob at meetings and he always greeted me with a big smile. He will be truly missed by many.
