Blackwood, John G. of Rochester, passed away on Friday, December 30, 2022 at age 92.  John was predeceased by his loving wife Carolyn (Vercruysse) Blackwood, his parents John M. and Lucy (Mahoney) Blackwood, and his brother Peter Blackwood. John is survived by his four children Debra (Joseph) Hanss, Kathryn (George) Weiner, Joanne Blackwood and John (Elizabeth) R. Blackwood. He always supported each one of his children and their spouses as individuals and loved large family gatherings. John developed a personal and unique relationship with each of his grandchildren; Erin (Kyle) Muench, John (Kate) Hanss, Raeanne (Joe) Schnabel, Anthony Lacatena (Julia Samworth), Jenna (Ben) Kerber, Nicholas Costello, Julia Blackwood and Justin Blackwood. They called him “Grampy” and he was always interested in their activities. He was especially proud when they began having families of their own. John was blessed with great grandchildren and enjoyed watching them grow; Olivia, Penelope and Xander Muench; Jack and Stevie Hanss; Bennett, Beckham and Callan Schnabel; Addison, Everleigh and Theodore Kerber; Joshua Latona and Amethyst, E’Zair and K’son Costello. John is also survived by his sister Lucy Fanizzi and many nieces, nephews and friends. John was born in Rochester, NY. He graduated high school from Aquinas Institute and then received his bachelor’s degree from Notre Dame University. John then continued his education at Syracuse University to receive his Master’s Degree.  He worked in the food technology industry and traveled extensively. John married the love of his life, Carolyn on October 16th, 1954 and together they raised their family in Irondequoit. John also embarked on a real estate career until his retirement in 2005.  In his free time, John was an avid fisherman and hunter and enjoyed exchanging stories with family and friends.   Friends are invited to join the family on Thursday, January 5, 2023 from 4:00 - 7:00pm at the funeral home (570 Kings Highway So.). Friends are invited to meet the family on Friday, January 6, 2023 at 10AM at St. Kateri at Christ the King Church for his funeral mass. Interment will follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. John spent his final days in hospice after a short battle with cancer. The family is eternally grateful and thankful for the exemplary care and compassion John received.
